Dublin Contemporary 2011 has collaborated with ANewSpace to commission internationally renowned street artists to create in twentytwo urban sites all over Dublin city centre. ‘Roadworks‘ includes artists such as Conor Harrington, D*Face, DMC, ESCIF, Foes Crew, InputOut, Jor, Mark Jenkins, Maser, Morgan, Prefab Collective, Will Saint Leger and Rask. Taking place from now until the end of October there has never been a better time to visit the streets of the capital and this is a testament to the hard work by the guys at ANewSpace.
Highlights so far include DMC‘s Call Girls on St Andrews Lane, Jor‘s Tree at Green Nineteen and Rask (Godfather of Irish Graffiti) in the National Gallery of Ireland. To keep up to date with all the latest happenings at ‘Roadworks‘ visit ANewSpace on Tumblr.

A Visual Feast; Irish Street Art is a photographic collection of Ireland’s stencils, paste-ups, installations, murals and portraits and features artist profiles …and comments throughout.
Jonathan Lynn of ANewSpace said “Its easy to make a book about international street art. TRESPASS: A History Of Uncommissioned Public Art by Wooster Collective is a great book but the scene in the US seems desperate to be gentrified and accepted. I feel that book is aimed at pushing street art away from its core of people just doing or making something and into the world of curators. It will allow the work of Jeffrey Deitch previously of Deitch Projects in New York and currently the director of the LA Museum of Contempory Art to promote large scale street art shows.
But is that what the world needs. Already guys with spray cans can be found at every music festival and church fair (soon). As soon as a book or gallery show happens street art seems to haved moved and changed.
Ideally I hope the A Visual Feast book will have more in common with Stencil Graffiti by Tristan Manco. One of the first books on stencils that seemed to sow the seeds for so many artists. (I always thank Jenny Fox for giving it to me.) Only time will tell.”
The Book, by Rua Meegan & Lauren Teeling, will be in stores mid November 2010. A Visual Feast‘s book launch will take place Thursday Nov 18th from 7pm in The Bernard Shaw in Dublin.
There will be drinks promotions and DJ’s as well as live painting by some of Ireland’s best street artists including ADW, Will St Leger, Fink, Xpir, Asbestos, Littleman and Solus. All Welcome!!

EU Street Art Exhibition – Dublin 4 November 2010

‘EU Street Art’ brings together a group of leading Irish artists working in the field of graffiti and stencil art and runs from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday from 1st to 12th November 2010. The artists were asked to produce two panels each illustrating their personal view of Europe today.
Taking place at European Union House, 18 Dawson Street, Dublin 2, the Exhibition is a collection of graffiti and stencil art including work by the hugely talented Jor (art above) and other established names featured on IrishStreetArt.com such as ADW, Danleo, and Will St Leger.
Commissioned by the European Commission
Representation in Ireland and curated by Fiona Mulholland.

ANewSpace present ‘Despite Your Face. This ambitious project consists of Irish and international Street Art from the Dublin Area. An opening party will take place on Culture Night, Friday the 24th of September from 6pm and the exhibition will continue until Sunday the 3rd of October at ANewSpace Gallery Boutique, 6 Chatham Street Dublin 2.
Featuring Works by: ADW, Asbestos, Canvaz, Cisto, Conor Harrington, Cool-C, DBC, Eine, Eelus, Karma, Loki, Morgan, Solus Splink(i love lamp), Will St Leger, Xpir and more to be announced
This collection hopes to present Irish and International street art in the Dublin area. It is by no means a complete overview (as the scene is far bigger then anyone can imagine) but instead is a snap shot of an underground existing in Irish society.
The exhibition is made up of a gallery show at Anewspace and special commission outdoor pieces. The first by ADW was completed on Sunday at Dame Lane, Dublin.

The Bernard Shaw hosted The Pop Show in June. A day of Keith Haring organized by Maser and 12 in aid of Dublin Aids Alliance.

Artist Will St Leger returns to do his 2nd door with “Cowards Carry Knives”. Will is a Dublin based artist/activist who uses stencils and art intervention to produce humorous and sometimes surreal fusion of icons, events and images from popular culture. He told twelvedoors.com, ‘Having a knife, carries no kudos, no safety and no respect.’

The Dublin based Artivist, Will St. Ledger, in his blog, tells us that he is in the process of finalising dates for his latest show ‘Bluetooth Fairy’. Once again St. Ledger pushs the boundries with this virtual exhibition ‘where the audience will receive my new work via Bluetooth to their mobile phones and then Bluetooth it to printers.’ The art on show will remain secret until the night of launch but if his portfolio to date is anything to go by this event should not be missed!

Street Art at The Fringe 1 September 2009

Dublin’s Fringe festival, taking place from the 5th to the 20th of September, will play host to Irish street artist Asbestos and Will St Leger. Asbestos has created 200 customised screenprints for Absolute Originals, an exhibition of 16 Irish pieces. The exhibition takes place at the Absolut Fringe Factory at Smock Alley Theatre throughout the festival. Check out the video below.
This year the organisers have also included a Street Art Club led by Will St Leger.
From the fringefest.com “Will St Leger is going to take you on a street art super journey covering spray painting to stencils to paste ups. You could think of it as a series of dates, but that might make the whole thing a little uncomfortable. What’s not uncomfortable is becoming the next Banksy while getting to street artify a whole wall at the Bernard Shaw. There will be paint and glue everywhere. But not unless you snap up one of only 20 places for this super cool, super hot, totally unsupercilious club.”
This club includes a field trip to Mind The Gap on Thu 17th at 7.30pm. Its a great chance to work with Ireland’s premiere ‘Artivist’ so make sure if you’re interested to get your hands on tickets as soon as you can.

Weekend Street Art at the Bernard Shaw 16 July 2009

This weekend sees a feast of street art at The Bernard Shaw. Friday night kicks off at 7 sharp with the Achieving Art Exhibition 2009 in Aid of Saplings (a school for children with Autism). The silent auction will host work from both Irish and International street/graffiti artists including Sums, Asbestos, Jor, Rask, Fink and Maser to name but a few.
Saturday night, July 18th, Will St Ledger presents the second Antics Rogue Show. From Toejam: “The brain child of local Dail climbing art hooligan Will St Leger, the first installment took place as part of last year’s Fringe Festival. Its a simple idea: You turn up with your old painting/picture etc, hand it in, the artists are called in, they are given a piece at random, they go to work on it live with spray, stencil, marker, blood or whatever their favourite medium is and an hour later you have a one of a kind updated piece of art. At this point the hand goes out looking for donations and you pay what you think it’s worth with all money going to the artists themselves.
Artists confirmed for the event are Asbestos, Adam Crane, ADW, Shane, Canvaz, Will himself, Morgan and more to be confirmed.
The event starts at 6:30pm and we reccomend you get there by 6pm to submit your picture for vandalism and get your ticket.”

Will St Ledger joined the MART team to bring interactive and visual feast to the eyes of clubbers. He tells us “Electro stenciling is a performance based art using a canvas covered in light sensitive paint and a strobe light. Very effective in the dark, but only lasts half an hour.” This clip is taken from POGO at The Twisted Pepper in Dublin.
The Dublin based Artist is building up quite a reputation as he continually creates iconic pieces addressing Ireland’s new age. From his iconic ‘Sinking Ship’ to the brutal ‘Awake with stitched Heart’ Will St Ledger is building a reputation as being one of the country’s leading artisitic commentators on the state our nation finds itself in.
