The graffiti report from @last TV directed by scanarama’s donal scannell includes an old processing factory in Drogheda and gives an insight into the earlier days of Irish graf writers. Respect!

JOR: An Influence since 1993 7 March 2009

Boy with Glasses & Gabbo - Jor

Irishstreetart.com hooked up with Jor , one of the most established graffiti icon’s in the country, who recently launched his blog. The photos included gives us a taste of the range of one of the masters in the Irish graffiti scene.

Jor began painting graffiti in 1993 after he discovered a piece by “Sut One” painted on a railside wall in his neighborhood. For the first three years he painted alone as Dublin had hardly any graffiti then, but it gave him the advantage to develop without the advice and rules from an established scene.

In 1996 he finally met Rask, Sums, Artz and Cmack. They all became good friends regularly painting together, which influenced Jor’s approach to style as being a contribution to a community with personal expression rather than trying to be better. His styles are influenced from everything around him including Georgian railings, plants, sheet music and modern architecture.

His favorite element of graffiti is the process more so than the product. The best things about graffiti are the atmospheres of interesting city areas that many citizens don’t explore, and especially the social aspect of graffiti where people casually paint together like musicialns improvising together. His favorite media of graffiti is the city itself.

He is proud of the great originality of styles of many Irish artists which are capable to stand alongside international graffiti, and is very happy to have made a contribution with them. Today Jor is mainly painting urban landscapes using oils on canvas, and his spraypaint work is now usually character based.
