Galway Street Art Funbar

Galway’s docks were transformed as thousands turned out over the past few weeks to see the Volvo Ocean Race. Locals like AKACrap and Baqsr were amoung the talent showing on the hoarding along Queen Street at the Race Village.

Taaffees Galway Art BaqsR Dust

Baqs R and Dust have given one of Galway‘s Shop Street’s landmark premise a facelift. Since its closure, Taaffe’s, once an iconic shop had been painted a dull grey. Other than the odd drink fueled tag that popped up, the disused store had become a nasty focal point. The newly painted tribute to Taaffe’s is now the perfect backdrop for the street performances that will no doubt be enjoyed by the hordes of people who flock to Galway this summer.

Galway recently played hoast to Baqs R and Crap’s fantastic graffiti exhibition in the Spanish Arch museum, but that wasn’t the only street art on show in ‘The City of the Tribes’ in February. Below is a collection of photos from around Galway, sent into IrishStreetArt.com that weekend.

BaqsR‘, ‘Crap’ and ‘Yer Wan’, with the support of Jame C. Harold (Galway City Arts Officer) and Margerat Nolan (Street Artist in Residence), will be displaying their art work at the Galway City Museum on February 20th from 3pm. After party in the Frontdoor Bar with MC Marcus Seóighe aka Johnny Stapleton from Ros na Rún and guest Speaker ‘Rask‘.

Whatever about the amazing work on show and words from the legenderay ‘Rask’, a chance to see a Ros na Rún character in the flesh should not be missed!

With The Ocean Race, The Arts festival and ‘The Races’, Galway was alive this summer season. The photos below were sent into us by Sharon in Galway. The last time IrishStreetArt.com featured the Galway (see here) we spoke about how the city council had destroyed alot of the the cities most inspirational graffiti so its great to see the city playing host to a fresh collection of alternative art.

galway014

Following another epic night with Dj Eurovision, Jony Cavs and the Heych Em Vee I decided to take a walk around the city to shoot some snaps. Until recently Galway was tagged from head to toe. Every writer had scribbled on their walk home from a good night out. Since then Galway was given a power shower and a lick of grey paint. Unfortunetly the tidy town committee weren’t very choosey with their power washer and seemed to have destroyed a lot of the city’s most inspiring stencils. Here is a pick of the graffiti left behind.
